Revolutionising Mobile Development at Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE)
IT ALL BEGAN WITH A TECHNICAL TRANSFORMATION...
Donal's journey at Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) commenced when he joined as a native mobile application developer adept in both Android and iOS. Assigned to the Research & Development (R&D) arm, his initial role involved contributing to mobile prototypes. HPE employed a proprietary framework that utilized JavaScript to run limited website-style apps across various mobile platforms. However, within the R&D domain, the framework proved overly restrictive, lacking access to essential native APIs such as accelerometers, cameras, files, calls, SMS, and more.
DONAL’S TECHNICAL LEADERSHIP
Empowering R&D Engineers: Donal recognised an opportunity to leverage his expertise to retrain HPE's R&D engineers, enabling them to develop native mobile applications when the situation demanded it.
Two-Pronged Training Approach: He implemented a comprehensive approach, testing the curriculum he devised through face-to-face sessions with a select group, using the feedback to refine the content for scalability both in-person and virtually.
Global Training Initiatives: Donal went beyond borders, providing in-person training to sizable groups of software developers in the USA and Mexico. Simultaneously, he created online training courses accessible to anyone, allowing for self-paced learning.
IMPACTFUL OUTCOMES
Extensive In-Person and Virtual Training: Through in-person sessions conducted across Europe and the USA, Donal successfully trained over 600 individuals. The impact magnified with virtual sessions and online content, reaching and educating over 3000 people globally.
Prolific Native Mobile Prototypes: Donal's training initiatives fueled the development of more than 30 new native mobile prototypes. Notably, one of these prototypes achieved commercialization in the healthcare sector, underlining the tangible impact of Donal's technical leadership at HPE.
